Fleming has marked the official ground-breaking at Baltic Street Adventure Playground (BSAP) in Dalmarnock, a significant milestone for a project that will benefit children, young people and families across Glasgow’s East End for generations to come.
Representatives from Clyde Gateway, Baltic Street Adventure Playground, the Scottish Government and project partners gathered on site on Tuesday 9 June for a ceremonial ground-breaking event to celebrate the start of works on the £1.1 million development. The occasion was officially marked by Councillor Richard Bell, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council, who broke ground alongside project stakeholders.
The new purpose-built facility, funded through investment from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund and Clyde Gateway, will replace the charity’s ageing temporary accommodation and provide a permanent base for its growing activities. Designed to reflect the scale and impact of BSAP’s work, the development will include indoor and covered community spaces, an expanded food hub, enhanced kitchen facilities for cooking and skills programmes, additional storage and modern office accommodation for staff and volunteers, creating a lasting community asset for Glasgow’s East End.
For more than a decade, Baltic Street Adventure Playground has provided a safe and inclusive environment where children can play, learn and thrive, while also supporting local families through food provision, community activities and practical support services. Established as part of the lasting legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the organisation continues to play a vital role within the local community.
As the main contractor, Fleming is proud to be delivering the project, working alongside an experienced professional team including Clyde Gateway, Armour Construction Consultants, INCH Architecture & Design, Kilbryde Consulting Engineers and Narro Associates.
Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027, creating a permanent community asset that will continue to support local children and families for many years to come.
Mike Burrows, Managing Director of Fleming, said:
“Baltic Street Adventure Playground has had a transformative impact on the lives of local children and families for many years, and we are proud to be helping to deliver a permanent facility that will support and strengthen that work long into the future. We look forward to working closely with all project partners as construction progresses on this important community project.”
The project has already attracted significant media attention, with coverage appearing across a number of regional and industry publications, including Glasgow Times, Glasgow Live, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, Project Scotland, Glasgow Wrap, Housing Executive and Yahoo News, highlighting the importance of the development and its positive impact on the local community.
